On Monday, October 6, Sacred Heart-Griffin hosted the All-School Mass on its football field. Students from all of the Springfield Catholic schools were in attendance: Christ the King, Blessed Sacrament, St. Agnes, Cathedral, St. Patrick, Little Flower, St. Aloysius, and SHG. The bishop of the Springfield diocese, Bishop Paprocki, presided.

Students from every school were involved in the Mass. Whether it was singing in the choir, reading petitions or serving, students had many opportunities to participate. The choir was comprised of students from many different schools. Students acted as Eucharistic Ministers, presented gifts to Bishop Paprocki and were flag bearers of their school flags.

SHG sophomore Sam Coats states that this year was much better than last time the Mass took place, in the fall of 2013. “It was a lot less hot and the Mass itself was a lot better.” The bishop gave a homily about how we are all a team, as Catholics and as Catholic schools. He referenced one of his personal favorite movies, Miracle. He mentioned how the players were all a team and how, as members of a common faith and faith community, we should be as well.

“It was not as hot,” says SHG freshman Grace Conlon, who sang in the choir at Mass. “I definitely enjoyed it.” Hopefully, the All-City Mass will continue to warm the hearts of all who attend in the years to come.
